Extract from In Search Of England - H.V. Morton Salisbury is surely the most peaceful cathedral city in England. It seems that all its tragedy was packed into the history of Old Sarum and with its removal into the valley came a delicious uneventfulness. I like to go out some few miles and look down on Salisbury, its thin spire, the finest in all England, rising from the plain, the smoke of its chimneys throwing a faint blue mist over the city. It is one of the cosiest English views.
